Women's Global Connection worked with "SHARE in Africa" to further girls education in Tanzania

Never a dull moment working with Women's Global Connection! We met with our friends from WCG in San Antonio, Texas in spring 2012.


Women's Global Connection is a non-profit "committed to building bridges of connection to promote the learning and leadership of women locally and around the world."

The BABE Rally is a unique fundraiser in which team members buy an old car for $500 or less, make it safe and legal, then drive it 1,500 miles from New York to New Orleans. New Jersey resident Matt Smith and his team successfully raised $1,800 for SHARE during the BABE Rally in June 2012! Way to go, guys -- and thanks!

Three cheers to Christopher McNamara for organizing a SHARE school supply drive at Markel Corporation in Redbank, New Jersey! 


Thousands of much needed contributions were donated, including pens, calculators, rulers, staplers, cameras, erasers, markers, pencils, sharpeners and much more. All the donated items were brand new.

John claims his involvement with "SHARE in Africa" and aiding girls in Tanzania has changed his life

John Bayeux has been a star supporter of SHARE since it began in 2008. He even wrote one of his college essays on SHARE! Now John plans to start a SHARE chapter at DeSales University. 

John believes that SHARE has given him an opportunity to channel his service efforts through helping the Tanzanian girls, and has changed his life forever.

Thanks to Nate Berkus for launching SHARE's pilot electronic reader initiative by donating 10 brand-new SONY E-Readers. SHARE greatly appreciates this generous gift that will benefit hundreds of secondary school teachers and students in Tanzania.

Junior class raises money for "SHARE in Africa" to support girls education in Tanzania

Each year the junior class at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, is in charge of putting on a dance during the dreary winter months. As class president, junior Jenna Bailey, 17, was put in charge of organizing the event in 2011. Jenna presented the idea of donating $2 of every $10 ticket to an organization of the class's choice.  The choice was unanimous: the Laurel Junior class chose to donate 20% of ticket sales to SHARE in Africa. The class particularly took to SHARE's dedication to working with adolescent girls in Tanzania.

Girl Scouts send school supplies to girls in Tanzania through "SHARE in Africa"

SHARE appreciates the support from several Girl Scout Troops in Ridgewood, New Jersey, who have been collecting school supplies for our schools in Tanzania.  The scouts have also helped raise funds by purchasing SHARE t-shirts and SHARE sillybandz, and all profits are donated directly to girls' education in Africa.

Shannon spoke at Ridgewood Film Festival promoting girls education in Tanzania

Special thanks to Roberta Carswell, Supervising Librarian at the Ridgewood Public Library, for inviting SHARE's founder, Shannon McNamara, to be the guest speaker at The Reel Voices Film Festival.  The film shown that evening was "A Small Act," which told the story of how an impoverished boy from Kenya made it to Harvard University, after an anonymous woman sponsored his education.

Shannon attended DoSomething Boot Camp to learn more ways to help girls in Tanzania through "SHARE in Africa"

Thanks to for an amazing conference in New York City, November 10, 2010.  SHARE team members Bridget Bauer, Dylan Canete, and Shannon McNamara participated in the day-long event. Boot Camps bring together a diverse group of young community leaders, activists and social entrepreneurs for a day of networking and training dedicated to giving each attendee the tools to grow and sustain their community action ideas, projects and organizations.

Terry helped provide light for "SHARE in Africa" schools


Cheers to Terry Carruthers, founder of Creative Energy, for compiling a "solar suitcase," a portable solar system designed to bring light to the SHARE library at the Kangabusharo Primary School in Bukoba, Tanzania.  The suitcase contained solar panels and rechargeable batteries to supply power to 12 LED cluster lights.  The McNamara family traveled to the school in July 2010 and Brendan McNamara installed the system into the classroom. 

Shannon was invited to present about girls education in Tanzania and "SHARE in Africa" by Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania

Thanks to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania for inviting Shannon to be the guest speaker at the Bridging Ceremony on May 18th, 2010 in Morrisville, PA.  Shannon gave a presentation on her Girl Scout Gold Award project, and educated the scouts on what life is like for girls their same age in Tanzania.
